It's money. Just look at this preview!)

When I hear the word SPACE the first thing that comes to mind is SPACE:1999, a show I used to watch when I was a kid and toally LOVED it :)
Starring Martin Landau, I didn't miss one episode of the saga of these guys stranded on the Moon which - kicked out by its orbit around the Earth - is now fluctuating in the deep space. Plus: EAGLES! (the ships, not the band ;))
Good, good stuff :)

Anyhow, decided to do my tribute in the same vintage sci-fi magazine style I did Jeff Hawke and Dan Dare previously. Hope you guys dig it :)

Man, I loved this show (along with Clutch Cargo) when I was a kid growing up in the 60's. I didn't know who Alex Toth was at the time, but I dig the art just the same. Little known fact about the show and the human lips spliced in, was that the lips were one woman, who lip-synced the audio track by putting her mouth inside a tube that had lights and the camera. This kept the lip from moving around too much making it easier to use later. Unlike when Conan O'Brian does it where the actor tries (fails) to not move. The result is the lips travel all over the place on the photo of the celebrity that they're making fun of. But then, this makes it fun, so there's that.

when i was a kid one of the first movie novelizations i read was condorman - funny thing was, i never saw the movie. the book contained a few movies stills - action sequences mainly, some villain shots, condorman fighting evil doers, and an awesome car....

my imagination ran wild!

i saw the movie probably 20 years later. it didn't hold a torch to my imagination... a little goofier than i had dream up, but fun. so in my eye, condorman's kinda cool, or at the very least - he's got potential. i'm a firm believer than any character no matter how lame can be made awesome, and be used to tell an exciting story.

so this is my take; a mashup of james bond and gatchaman. condorman, akin to batman, as a secret agent operative of the cia. condorman was a disney flick, and disney owns marvel, there are possibilities here....

due to time, i've put the piece up a little unfinished - there is an absent global skyline along the top, and the dash of colour i wanted to add... i'll try and tackle that later next week. but for now, i thought i'd share....

I picked vampires because I am huge horror fan.

This is the last of the three major horror archetypes that I've picked

to draw (the other two being Frankenstein, and the Wolfman).

This piece was done for the recent remake of the movie FRIGHT NIGHT.

I drew all of the character Evil Ed's art in the movie.

I'll be posting a brand new vampire piece in a few days.

I've updated the post with a more "finished" version. I tried and failed to incorporate a more"zen" inking style on this but failed miserably. Anyway, here's the result after many attempts to fix it.

I love Usagi Yojimbo. He's a rare character in that his stories can straddle so many different lines from action and adventure, humour, fantasy and horror. Great pick, Dave.

I love Damian Wayne. He was an annoying little shit when he first appeared but the awesomeness of Morrison's writing made me love him. He's kinda like a badass version of Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes.

My idea was to draw Damian in a bunch of iconic Batman poses just cause he's such a chip off the old block and all. Here's the first two although I still have to ink the one. There will be more to come as soon as I think of more iconic poses.

Hey, guys! Great entries, everyone! It's my week, so I couldn't NOT contribute, even if it's just a head shot. I've had a soft spot for the character of the Punisher ever since, as a kid, I picked up a black-and-white magazine-format collection of the Mike Zeck/Steve Grant 'Circle of Blood' mini-series. That shit blew my mind! And then, many years later, when Garth Ennis was given license to work with the character in Punisher Max, my mind was blown again by what can only be described as the definitive statement on the character.

I know a lot of comics fans may roll their eyes at the premise of the Punisher (especially when depicted in ivory evening gloves wrestling with Spider-man or whoever), but seriously, if you haven't checked out any of the original Punisher Max series, particularly Ennis's collaborations with the masterful Goran Parlov, you are missing out on some seriously great comics.

I love Tim Seeley's Hack/Slash. It's a terrific blend of horror and humor, with a dash of science fiction around the edges. Throw in a compelling female lead, and her equally compelling man-child monster partner, and you've got a cool-as-hell pop-culture comic book confection.

It's a bunch of stuff that I love but never get to draw, so I thought it would make for a fun Twart.

I realized after the fact that I drew Cassie's hair over the wrong eye, so I apologize to Tim for that one!

THIS is what I would love to do at DC, if ever given the chance.

DARK KNIGHT DETECIVE; a crime series set in Gotham city. Not a superhero book. It would be a mix of the Batman Animated Series, Year One, Gotham Central, and The Wire. This would be a more street-level book with the emphasis on the Batman solving actual crimes, instead of fighting super-villains all the time.

Okay, I get paid to sit in my chair and color comics every day, and I'm paid well to do it, and I've got more work to do than I can comfortably handle, but sometimes Mr. Hawthorne draws superheroes and I just push everything I'm supposed to be working on to the side for an hour so I can color his stuff for fun. That's how good he is. Why DC doesn't have him chained to a desk churning this stuff out for them daily is a mystery to me. A goddamn MYSTERY.

The Flash is one of my favourite characters. As a kid, I used to read the Flash at around the tail end of the Infantino run. The "Trial of Barry Allen" arc, I think. I still remember the issue where the Flash was racing against time to save Fiona Webb, who sealed herself up in a sensory deprivation chamber after being trapped in a rockslide or something... I don't know. I might be making all of this up. Still, I was fascinated by this guy who, at the point I first read about him, had been through a hell of a lot.

I read about him next at around Crisis. In fact, I read the issues where he was already dead first as I couldn't find the issues to fill my run until later. He always seemed to be a guy doing huge and great things, and paying the price for it.

Hm. It's late and I seem to be rambling. I can probably talk about the Flash for hours, though. I'll leave it with this: my favourite Flash story of all time is Mark Waid's "Return of Barry Allen". Not only is it a great superhero adventure story but it also contains everything essential about a great story, period. People interested in the character would do very well to get a copy of that story and read it.

Anyway, that's it.

Hey folks, here's my piece for this week's Twart. It was my pick this week and I really wanted to shine the spotlight on a fantastic new comic by creators at the top of their game. I complain that when I pick up a comic I often have to pick between a good story or good art. It is tough to find a comic that is both well written AND illustrated with real vision (including some brave and innovative colouring). LOOSE ENDS is one of those books. Issue One just came out on stands. Please try and grab a copy of this truly compelling Southern/Crime/Romance story, or you can download it online from Graphicly.

Like Mike said, if you care about comics why not support some creator-owned stuff while you're at it? I'm a big fan of Latour, Brunner, and Renzi each so I definitely think folks should be checking this out.
