Running a little late, here's my piece for Roald Dahl week, The BFG. Like a lot of the guys I loved Dahl's work when I first started reading. As always, another great pick, Tom!

ROALD DAHL by Ron Salas

I don't know if I'll get to finish this before the end of the week but I wanted to at least post this because I really had a lot of fun with this week's theme. Tom is great at picking the themes I would never have thought of doing and a pretty ways away from my wheelhouse so I find I always get to try new stuff when his turn comes around.
Anyway, here's the sketch, from The Enormous Crocodile.
Edit: Posted the final, or as final as it will be at this time.
Edit 2: As per Tom's request, here's the original sketch.

ROALD DAHL by Francesco Francavilla
Click on the image for the larger BIG REVEAL POSTER!!! ;)

Great pick, Tom! :)
I hope it's ok if I went more minimalistic on this one after the the big poster of yesterday (btw thank you so much everyone, your response to it is WOWing me :))
I guess I shouldn't really specify which book I choose here, or should I? ;)
Cheers,
Francesco

ROALD DAHL... by tom fowler
first: JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH.
... really the reason i picked roald dahl this week. i've been ready "james" to my 3 year old son this week, and when we hit this scene, which i had absolutely no memory of, the image hit me immediately and i had to paint it!
second: THE FANTASTIC MR. FOX.

... the boy may be a bit young for this one yet.
part of the reason i love roald dahl is that his children's fiction is full of such visceral, inky blackness. terrible things happen. characters are dispatched in horrible, if often ludicrous, fashion. dahl shies away from none of it, but presents it in a way that children still find deeply fun and compelling.
to hell with r.l. stein. roald dahl was the master of children's horror.
