TOP 10 - Smax

For my Top 10 guy I picked the obvious: Jaafs Macksun. I mean, c'mon, he's the coolest!
I've been meaning to get this up for weeks now but I finally got the time to finish it.

SPACE by Ron Salas

Stephen Hawking's birthday was this week so I felt it apt to draw him for this week's topic.
Whatever you think about the guy, he's an inspirational figure and made a huge difference in the way we think about the universe.

CONDORMAN by Ron Salas

OK, I knew Ramon meant the Disney Condorman played by Michael Crawford but I just couldn't bring myself to draw the costume. Luckily, there's a Japanese Condorman that has a much cooler costume so I did that version instead.

Sorry.

STREET FIGHTER by Ron Salas

I've updated this post with my Cammy. She's probably one of my fave SF characters that doesn't get much play. She's got a cool design, especially when drawn by Kinu Nishimura.

This Chun Li an older one. I deliberately drew a similar pose for Cammy to see if I've gotten any better since then.

VAMPIRES by Ron Salas

I thought I was going to have until the weekend to finish my vampire twart (get it? Vampire. Weekend? Aaaah forget it.) but it looks like the other guys had a quick jump on this thing. Here's my entry: David from the Lost Boys, a movie I have never seen.

USAGI YOJIMBO by Ron Salas

I've updated the post with a more "finished" version. I tried and failed to incorporate a more"zen" inking style on this but failed miserably. Anyway, here's the result after many attempts to fix it.

I love Usagi Yojimbo. He's a rare character in that his stories can straddle so many different lines from action and adventure, humour, fantasy and horror. Great pick, Dave.

Here's the original sketch

CHEL by Ron Salas

Here's the sketch. I hope to get it done shortly.
Great pick, Mike. I had fun drawing this.

DAMIAN WAYNE by Ron Salas

I love Damian Wayne. He was an annoying little shit when he first appeared but the awesomeness of Morrison's writing made me love him. He's kinda like a badass version of Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes.

My idea was to draw Damian in a bunch of iconic Batman poses just cause he's such a chip off the old block and all. Here's the first two although I still have to ink the one. There will be more to come as soon as I think of more iconic poses.

GROO by Ron Salas

Here's a belated quick Groo.
I've never read the book but it looks fun. I wish I had a better week health-wise during the past week because I really would've liked to spend more time doing a proper piece.

THE PUNISHER by Ron Salas

Continuing my sketchy run, here's my Punisher.
It should be no secret to anyone that I'm a big Punisher fan having read most of his adventures throughout the past three decades. It's a book I'd love to draw 'cause by this point I feel like I've come to really know the guy.

HACK/SLASH by Ron Salas

This wip will have to do for now but I will get back to this.

GREEN LANTERN by Ron Salas

I've been in kind of a drawing slump for at least a couple of weeks but I tried really hard to make this halfway decent at least. You decide.

EDIT: Updated with the latest colour job. I also redrew that left arm. It was embarassing me with its awfulness.
In the end I don't think this turned out half bad after all.

THE FLASH by Ron Salas

The Flash is one of my favourite characters. As a kid, I used to read the Flash at around the tail end of the Infantino run. The "Trial of Barry Allen" arc, I think. I still remember the issue where the Flash was racing against time to save Fiona Webb, who sealed herself up in a sensory deprivation chamber after being trapped in a rockslide or something... I don't know. I might be making all of this up. Still, I was fascinated by this guy who, at the point I first read about him, had been through a hell of a lot.

I read about him next at around Crisis. In fact, I read the issues where he was already dead first as I couldn't find the issues to fill my run until later. He always seemed to be a guy doing huge and great things, and paying the price for it.

Hm. It's late and I seem to be rambling. I can probably talk about the Flash for hours, though. I'll leave it with this: my favourite Flash story of all time is Mark Waid's "Return of Barry Allen". Not only is it a great superhero adventure story but it also contains everything essential about a great story, period. People interested in the character would do very well to get a copy of that story and read it.

Anyway, that's it.

Mr. Hawthorne requested I post the pencils so here's the original sketch.

LOOSE ENDS by Ron Salas

OK. Colour.

I thought I knew how I was going to colour this but I've momentarily forgotten.
Anyway, here's the black and white. Colour may or may not be forthcoming.

GIANT MONSTER by Ron Salas

I couldn't figure out for the entire week what I wanted to do for this thing. Now that I know what I'm going to do I'm putting up this placeholder to let you guys know it'll be here shortly.
I don't know if any of you guys have seen this but this was a pin-up I did for Mice Templar #2. It kind of fits, I think.

SPACE GHOST by Ron Salas

OK, here's my real Space Ghost twart.
I used to love the show as a kid although I can't remember much of it now considering I haven't actually seen the show in 30 years. Still think that he has one of the most iconic and brilliant costume designs out there. That's the power of Toth.

Just a piece.

GENE COLAN TRIBUTE by Ron Salas

I've been a big fan of Gene Colan since I first saw one of his Daredevil issues. He had a way of making figures seem heroic and dynamic and I could pick up on that even then. I've followed his work off and on over the years but it's only during the past few years that I've really understood just how great an artist he is. He is a true original and will be missed.

RIP Gene Colan

Weapon X by Ron Salas

OK, here's my twart, finally.

...

I think I overdid it.

THE WOLFMAN by Ron Salas

Man, I hate getting way behind on my Twarts. When Andy picked this topic though, I knew I had to get in on it. This was a lot of fun to do.
