WEAPON X by Dan McDaid

I first read Weapon X round at my friend Alex Jamal's house. Marvel Comics Presents, issues... I don't know. Maybe from issue one onwards? I don't remember. What I do remember is having my tiny mind completely blown by Barry Windsor Smith's stunning, horrible, gorgeous artwork and - just as importantly - his spare, punchy, visceral writing (I probably wouldn't have used the word "visceral" back then. Then again, I might - pretentious teenager). For a while, I was fascinated by Windsor-Smith, how his art morphed from the early Kirby-stuff to the more delicate, art nouveau-inspired stuff. I even kind of got into Mucha cos of how much it reminded me of BWS.

I haven't thought about Weapon X and Barry Windsor-Smith much since the early 90s, so it was a real pleasure to go back to them for this Twart. Good pick, Dan P!

THE DALEKS by Dan McDaid

Hello! Didn't have time to do a proper Doctor Who TWART this week (ironically, I've been too busy drawing the strip in the UK's Doctor Who Magazine. Ooh, fancy!). But I did have time to fit in a quick commission for a pal. So never mind the Doctor, here's THE DALEKS:

Hope you like it! (and if you do, there's tons more Doctor Who stuff over at my website!)

SANDMAN by Dan McDaid

I had the idea for this pic even before I knew I was going to select Sandman for this week's TWART. I love Flint Marko, AKA The Sandman. There are a ton of reluctant superheroes out there, but Sandman is one of the few reluctant supervillains - and he sports a wicked Steve Ditko design (incorporating Ditko's trademark cornrows) to boot.

I also did a couple of DC Sandman sketches using the Brushes app for iPod.

I used my finger! It's the future!

EDIT: Following some (gentle) arm-twisting from Ron Salas, I decided to post my warm-up piece as well :)

FRANKENSTEIN by Dan McDaid

I read Frankenstein for the first time about two years ago (having pretended to read it at school - sorry Mrs Brown), and it's properly brilliant. Full of fantastic imagery, terrific atmosphere, all that good stuff. This is one of my favourite moments (which isn't really in the book): the creature heads for the ship where Victor is trapped.

Anyway - hope ya like it!

HELLBOY by Dan McDaid

A (very) belated Hellboy. Am I the worst TWARTer in the world, or what? Anyway, this is a snippet from something I'm working on just for sh*ts and giggles - a one-page strip called "How the West Was Doomed!"

More TWARTing soon - I hope!

The THING (and guests) by Dan McDaid

Probably not... but it's a neat way to catch up with a few weeks of missed TWARTS.

Hope ya like :)

BLACK BEETLE by Dan McDaid

Francesco - you have created a SERIOUSLY cool character. Loved drawing this guy :)

Edited to add: I just uploaded a slightly higher-contrast one, cos the first one looked a bit wishy-washy. And I thought you cats might dig this mono version!
