CLARA DE NOCHE by Mr. Hawthorne

YAY! It's my week to pick and I chose a...hooker! Hope you're all cool with that ;)

Anyway, I feel I should set this piece up. It's a nod to a strip by Bernet where Clara, and her friend Virgina, are walking around town and finding grafitti proclaiming the writer's love for Clara. Virgina thinks it's romantic, but Clara finds this very annoying. That is till they come across one message that says "Clara! Price is no object", to which she responds "Now, THERE'S a man that can write.".

Here's the strip-

(This strip was translated into English in the book "The Art of Jordi Bernet")

So, basically mine says "Clara, price is STILL no object". Meaning, you STILL got it Clara - and Mr. Bernet. ;)

Hope you dig it.

Mike

GREAT "rear" shot, Mike, I think you, among all the entries so far, are the one who really captured Bernet's take on the character :)
And having an original Bernet strip too to go with, just confirms my feeling :)

Cheers,
Francesco

Thanks, Francesco.

I think Bernet's stuff is really about charming you into liking it. You can't get bowled over with a bunch of rendering or what have you, but you get so caught up in the appeal of the line - the charm of his approach - that you can't help but love his work.

So, in that respect, I didn't quite get it. I still have to use tricks an rendering to make this work. Bernet would have used like 10 lines on the whole thing and it would have been 10 times sexier ;)

But thank you, Amico. Much love :)

That is quite a shelf.

I totally agree with you about Bernet. I could have just drawn any sexy chick for my Twart but I pored through a lot of Bernet Clara art because there's that little extra something in how he draws her. I think it's that charm and sense of fun--something I tried to apply to my own piece.

Great job, man.
