HELLBOY by Ron Salas

I'll take any chance to draw Hellboy. However, as many on twitter know, I have problems drawing his legs. I've drawn Hellboy a dozen times and I think I've always resorted to hiding his legs behind either smoke or rubble. Anyway, I hope this time I'm successful drawing at least part of his legs.

I'm such a huge fan of Mignola that I want it to look "right".

This is a scene from the story "The Third Wish", one of my favourite tales.

Edit: As a bonus, here's a Hellboy marker sketch I did a couple of years ago.

This is totally slick, Ron. Great design, with the tentacles all swirling and leading the eye to HB. Beautiful, lush inks. Wow! And I wouldn't worry about the legs and feet: even Mignola almost never draws them, either! ;D Great job!

Thanks man. Mignola's always been a huge source of inspiration for me when it comes to composition so it's always something I try to especially work on when I draw Hellboy. I figure 90% of the appeal is how he composes the elements of his pieces.

Glad you like it!

Super Job Ron. I know from your Tweets how you struggled with his legs. But I think your solution works perfectly. And like Nathan said above, Mignola almost never draws them either. LOL Excellent piece.

Darn, Ron, this is superfinished and so beautifully done :D
Now if only Dave Stuart could color it and it will be cover ready :)

Cheers,
Francesco

Kirk - Thanks. I had an idea that I was going to cover the legs up in the end but I wanted to draw the legs because otherwise I didn't think it would look like he's really Hellboy.

Francesco - Oooo IF ONLY. ;-) Thanks!
