DAN DARE by Declan Shalvey

Never drew Dan Dare before. Never had much interest to be honest as he seemed very smug and British when i was younger, and being Irish, i didn't warm to that. Probably why i never really got into Doctor Who either.

Anyhoo, that was then, this is now. He seems like a pretty cool sci-fi character to me now, though i think it shows i enjoyed drawing the Mekon fella more than Dare himself. Kinda wish i'd drawn Dare from the side a little more. It's a cool helmet he has, but i think i drew it at an awkward angle.

The Mekon is superb, Dare is cool too though really like the simple rendering and the hand in the fg is really nicely drawn.

Yes! God damn, I LOVED Dan Dare growing up. Cheers for bringing it all back guys! Who'd have thought that a villian with a big melon head could be so cool...

Great illo, Dec, aI really like the evil expression of Mekon: it can only mean trouble for our Dan Dare :)
Love the space rendition too: you should do a sci fi book at some point :)

Cheers,
Francesco

Great composition and use of negative space.
The Mekon looks especially menacing.
