Great pick, M!tch :D

I usually don't like to post "old" stuff in here, but since it's allowed to have place holders - and since I am having quite a busy week with work and the GIANT ROBOTS thing over my blogs - I thought to share one of the most fun (and elaborated) commission I have done.
This was for Michael Finn's "One Minute Later" series, where he commissions artists to draw what happens to the action on famous covers, well, one minute later ;)
I had the privilege to choose my own cover to tribute, and I decided to go with (my good friend and mentor and comics modern master) Jim Steranko's cover for Nick Fury #7

Above is what I thought it would happen a minute later ;) (in the order, rough sketch, pencils, inks, washes, and colors)

Again, this is a place holder: I am working on an actual 2 strip story for this week jam, so stay tuned for it.
Hope you guys enjoy it :)

Cheers,
Francesco

Place holder nothing dude. If I didn't know better I'd swear this was a vintage cover. Nice fucking work. You totally nailed everything from the overall aesthetic right down to the color palette. Its super fun. Epic win.

Awwww, old stuff? What a gyp!

haha Just kidding. I love this, man. Really love all the detail and composition.

I remember when you posted this on the Drawing Board, and I'll say now what I said then: If this weren't a commission, I'd demand a print of it. One of my favorite Francavilla pieces.

Can't wait to see the strips you're working on too.

Fits right in with the 60's Marvel title! Wonderful!

Thank you so much, guys, you are all too sweet :)
I am very happy (and proud) of this commission and on how it turned out: when I finished it, I almost didn't want to part from it ;)
Slowly working on the 2 strips, but they are coming along: just too many things to do in a week :P

Joe: it was great to meet you at dinner at the Cajun Queen in Charlotte, wish we had more time to talk but the table was too big and the food was too good ;)

Cheers,
Francesco

Like wise, Dan, likewise :)
All I can say is: when are we gonna meet, shake hands and have a drink? :)

Thanks,
Francesco

Are you attending SDCC? I'll be there all week! I would be honored to share mead with you!

Francesco Francavilla said...

Sadly I will be skipping SD for the first ime in 5 ys. I will be in Baltimore next month as guest, though: are you gonna be there?
Either way, have fun at the CCI and say hi to SD for me pls :)

Cheers,
Francesco

WoW...wOw... WOW!!!

I know we're supposed to be inspired by other artists... but I just wanna throw all my pencils in the trash when I see your stuff, because I know I'll never be able to draw anything that cool.

So, instead I'm going to print out your Nick Fury strip and post it on the wall in front of my drawing table.

And, I guess I could go out and buy everything you've ever had published.
That might inspire me too.

WOW, that's one of the most flattering comment I have ever had: thank you so much, Jamie :D
And you are right about us getting inspired by other artists: I get inspired to grow as artist any single day just looking at other artists work :)

Cheers,
Francesco
