Black Beetle by Mitch Breitweiser

I freaking LOVE the character design, so I hated that I had to rush this one. I'm trying to talk Elizabeth into slapping some color on it when she gets a little less busy,

Cheers all!

BLACK BEETLE by Mr.Hawthorne

Francesco's pulp comic work is classic. Simple as that.

Francesco gave us an early heads up to his selection. SO, last week I started a digitally painted version of the piece below. I got hit with some deadline stuff, and wouldn't be able to finish that painted version, so I started an inked version.

I got the above about 2/3's done when I saw that Tom, being the brilliant bastard that he is, had a VERY similar idea to what I had begun. :)

So I did this one.

Enjoy.

BLACK BEETLE by Mitch Gerads

A great sign of a great character is if you have too many ideas to pick from. You done good, Francesco. I had to do this one up a bit more just because you've been a great pal, Francesco. I hope you all likey!

Francesco - you have created a SERIOUSLY cool character. Loved drawing this guy :)

Edited to add: I just uploaded a slightly higher-contrast one, cos the first one looked a bit wishy-washy. And I thought you cats might dig this mono version!

still having fun with this painting thing. hope you like it, francesco. i'm throwing in the sketch too (cuz i like how it turned out...)

btw, it's not lost on me that this is the second piece i've done for this site featuring a pair of dead-lady legs. i am seeking counseling. (at least this time around the character's perturbed by it...)

also, junior boys twartists brigade member and all around swell guy brion salazar sent this along. thanks brion, we love you too! go listen to the last days of brion's (and some other guys') awesome podcast around comics.

I had a few ideas for this when I first heard of this week's character and for some reason decided on the most time consuming one. I was caught up in the idea of creating history for a character that should have one but doesn't.

I should colour this at some point but for right now let's call this done.

BLACK BEETLE by Andy Kuhn

This weeks character is Francesco Francavilla's
awesome pulp style hero Black Beetle.
My version is from Black Beetle the animated series.
I'm sure this show is gonna happen as soon as hollywood
finds out about this super-cool character.
Cheers to you Francesco!

THE BLACK BEETLE by Declan Shalvey

So as you may have figured this week we're drawing Francesco's Black Beetle character. I had fun with this one. I think i got the colour wrong on the underside of the cape wrong, but i thought it would look well as a finished image.

If yer interested, you can see the original inked drawing over on my blog.

After seeing all the astounding artwork posted after the first weeks here at Comic Twart, I couldn't help but choosing my own pulp hero, The Black Beetle, as my subject choice for this week's jam.
Can't wait to be blown away by this talented bunch. This is gonna be fun! :)

Here's my entry so now I can just sit back and enjoy the show like everyone else :)
Above: the inks. Below: the final colored image as featured on Pulp Sunday.

Cheers,
Francesco

i'm not sure if it's a time zone thing or francesco is just eager to get us started... but i'm slipping this one in on eastern standard.

crunching for time this week with a few deadlines looming i decided to keep it simple and do a simple headshot as my fellow twart really covered all the bases with their amazing renditions of our metalloid friend.

so this round was done straight to inks, using a #3 (still working my way up to the #6 mitch utilizes!), along with some zip and a dash of colour in photoshop.
