TORPEDO by Urban Barbarian

My take on this cover by Jordi Bernet - not nearly as cool, mainly because Bernet's version rocks and I didn't show his gun... But in the right hands, a newspaper can be used as, um, well - reading material, I suppose. Click on the image to enlarge ( if you dare! ) Cheers!

Man, that is slick, Dan. Great use of the zipatone, and I keep coming back to that hand. Great inks.

Guys, I hate to say it, but I've never heard of this character. I'm going to have to fix that. These illos have been wonderful!

This is just fantastic man. Love the tone, the muted colours, the drawing, etc.

I'll have to rob what you did with tone there someday. Rob it good.

Dan, man is that all digital!? Looks fucking sharp, and the white tone over the black is a smart way to show the tone and still keep the suit white. I love that, man.

Great job!

Mike

I'm willing to bet it's not digital, as i thought something Dan did recently was digital (cuz it was so slick) and i was dead wrong.

That is *deadly*. Those eyes - Jesus!

You've personified "Don't f*ck with me while I'm reading the papah' " perfectly! Well played, Panosian, well played.

Love the zip!

Thanks guys! Declan is right, I drew it and then PS Colored it like I would a cover.

It was so late last night that I forgot to add the bullet hole in the paper ( which I've added now ). Luckily a post on DA mentioned he could have a gun behind the paper and it came back to me. Late night drawing does have disadvantages!

Yeah, I was unsure. I know from talking to Dan that he often does it by hand then switches over, but wasn't sure here. Either way, it's awesome.

best,
mike

Thanks Mike! Yeah, this one was fun! Borrowed Mitch's great colors from his Zorro piece and added some texture! Perfect for that old skool vibe! Thanks again for the invite guys. Looks like I made it right before the cut off!

Yeah, that color really makes it very "pulp" :) Great angle, Dan,and again glad you made it to the "circle" ;)

Cheers,
Francesco

The eye and the bullet hole in the paper made this just about as kick-ass as anything. Those two elements, aside from being just a gorgeous piece, are just good-to-the-bone storytelling.
