SPACE by Francesco Francavilla

SPACE 1999

Great pick, Chris!!! :D

When I hear the word SPACE the first thing that comes to mind is SPACE:1999, a show I used to watch when I was a kid and toally LOVED it :)
Starring Martin Landau, I didn't miss one episode of the saga of these guys stranded on the Moon which - kicked out by its orbit around the Earth - is now fluctuating in the deep space. Plus: EAGLES! (the ships, not the band ;))
Good, good stuff :)

Anyhow, decided to do my tribute in the same vintage sci-fi magazine style I did Jeff Hawke and Dan Dare previously. Hope you guys dig it :)

Cheers,
Francesco

Dan Dare by Ron Salas

Here's my late Dare.
The other guys chose to highlight the spaceman aspect of the guy by putting him in his spacesuit but I felt his normal space force uniform with coat looked cooler and I found that military aspect of his character more interesting.

I would've finished this sooner but I wanted to get a jump on this week's topic.
Also, since I already know what next week's topic is going to be, I can get a jump on that as well!

Darn it! Yet another cool character to draw: these guys are killing me with their picks :P
Cut some time in between coloring Green Hornet Year One pages (did you pick up #1 yesterday? I colored the book over Campbell's art and Wagner's plot :)) to do some drawin' for the TWART and this is what came out of it. I guess I am still digging in the attic for those old magazine vibes ;)

Cheers,
Francesco

John Carter by Ron Salas

Here's my John Carter.

John Carter and the other Edgar Rice Burroughs heroes were big parts of my childhood. Burroughs was an incredibly prolific writer and, in my opinion, there was no better writer at writing adventure novels and stories. So what if his stories were, by and large, factually inaccurate? He had a sense of action and drama that were second to none.

I probably would have picked John Carter for my topic if no one had when my turn came so I'm really glad Andy picked him. Thanks Andy!

Johnny Recon by Steve Bryant

My apologies to Mitch for the lateness of this Twart. Johnny Recon is a terrific character and I had a blast playing around with this piece (which is my clumsy nod to Al Williamson, Wally Wood and Frank Frazetta).

If you want to see more Johnny (and believe me, you DO want to see more), you can make a big difference by contributing to Scott Dillon and Mitch Gerads' Johnny Recon Kickstarter campaign. It's money well-spent.

Johnny Recon by Ron Salas

Here's my belated Twart. Apologies to Mitch for being late but I really wanted to capture this idea. I've been meaning to have this up sooner but things kept getting in the way.

Updated with the coloured poster version.

JOHNNY RECON by Francesco Francavilla

Johnny Recon in PLANET OF DOOM

I think PLANET OF DOOM with Johnny Recon is a movie everyone should go to watch :)
And I think having the Twart done and off my plate will let me get now to those deadlines and commissions that are waiting for me ;)

Thanks for the cool character you and Scott created, Mitch: drawing this reminded me of how much fun it was to work on that issue of FEAR AGENT a couple of years ago :)

Hope you guys digs it.

Cheers,
Francesco
